Soul Food Mexico is growing its family and its partnerships. And we are advancing into the 21st century with this blog! We will be using this forum to keep our friends and family updated with all things new within the hacienda.
First: our hacienda family is growing! We have a group of new spunky chickens producing delicious eggs for enormous homemade breakfasts. They also entertain the children who visit, as they’re exceptionally friendly and don’t mind being picked up or chased around.
And we are expecting new life, too! In the upcoming months, we will welcome a couple of baby sheep and one precious baby donkey into the SFM family. Make your reservations for February if you want to be present for the birth of Simona and Enrique’s first child! And be sure to congratulate Gabriel and Don Carlos, essential members of our team, and grandparents of sorts to the new arrivals.
The pregnant sheep is wearing a red ribbon around her belly to protect her from any potential damage to the fetus during the solar eclipse a couple of months ago. According to our friends in Chapultepec, this practice is an important precautionary measure to take for humans in addition to animals.
Also, if you haven’t met them in person, here are our expecting donkey parents, Enrique (hanging out in the back) and Simona (definitely upset about being as pregnant as she is).
Did you know that donkeys gestate for one whole year? Our sincere sympathies to Simona as she soldiers through the next few months. She tells us every day that she’s feeling ready to get this over with – we’re with you, Simona!
